Mississippi River walleye and Crappie report

Over the last week I have bounced from Hastings to Lake Pepin several times chasing walleyes and crappies.    Both species are cooperating but in different areas.   And also fishing different techniques.

For the crappies I have mainly been pitching small tube jigs and buck tail jigs to put them into the boat.   Wednesday Brian the bassman joined me for the crappie chasing.   We caught most of our crappies in 3 to 10 foot of water.   Once you found one it usually meant you could get a few in the area    Butt do not get stuck in one spot we noticed after a few fish the bite would really slow so on down the bank we went looking for the next school.    Brian it was an absolute great time having you in the boat again my friend I could see you really missed the river.

Thursday Marty, Brian , and Rick joined me in the morning for some multi species fish    We caught walleyes, crappies, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, blue gills and of course sheep heads   We did nothing but pitch jigs today    Marty had the hot stick today and Brian was a close second   These guys were so fun to get together again with lots of bullshit being talked in the boat  fun times guys guys.

Friday I had the pleasure of sharing my boat with three gentlemen from Arizona   Neil , Chris and Brian joined me for a half day in the morning   We started out trolling with the limit creek 8'3 trolling rods but the fish did not want anything to do with this technique   I then Dug out the Limit creek 5' 10 jigging rods to throw some cranks at the wing dams   Great choice on the switch    These rods worked great for this technique today the boys  boated several walleyes and even a few small mouth bass to boot   Sure am glad you got your first walleye ever with me Neil it's always great to see fishermens reaction to catching one of the toughest fish to in the boat. Great time guys and I look forward to seeing you in November

The river is starting to recede and it is cleaning up a bit   Can't wait to see what the near future holds for the walleye bite with the water temperatures coming down slowly

Good luck out there guts and gals !!!!
