With the water temperatures, water levels and time of the year targeting Walleye's and saugers both in deeper water and shallower water can be productive. If you trust your electronics enough when you see the marks you should concentrate on those fish for some time. On most days sooner or later they will try and eat something.
Now with that being said you should try other baits out to try and trigger them. Does this mean if a guy or gal fishing next to you catches one on a minnow or some other plastic mean you should use same thing? Not necessarily. That my have triggered one fish to bite. Once you pattern a certain color then switch the other to this.
I have fished Dubuque rigs in the mornings as of late in my boat then switched gears to pulling three ways with floating rapalas. Both techniques have produced Walleye's and saugers and each day one did out produce the other. The colors of raps have been different each day going from blue silver, hot steel, black and gold, and finally purple decent. We mainly used number 7's over the last couple weeks but that will change with the water temps rising.
Monday the 3 rd Don Bross and his dad Larry joined me What a fun day teaching Larry a few things about fishing today he was a blast to have in the boat
