Over the last week and a half the river has risin over 6 ft. Surprisingly it stayed very clean with the St. Croix river being the more dominant out of it and the mighty Mississippi River. And a bonus the walleyes and saugers have been biting pretty good.
Marty and I got out for some searching on Thursday the 21 st and found a few areas that the walleyes were staging in with the river coming up so fast. We fished a couple different techniques to get the walleyes to bite with dragging jigs being the hottest technique on this day. It was fun and relaxing to get out with you again Marty and I look forward to it again when we both get a chance we are not guiding on same days.
Monday the 25th Nathan and I went out for the day. We fished several areas today and caught walleyes and saugers in about every place we went. Not always keeper sized walleyes but they were keeping us busy with their willingness to eat today. Our best bite in the river was dragging jigs today although we boated several fish trolling cranks. It was a great time fishing with you Nathan today and I am glad I could teach you a little about the river system even in the high water conditions. See you in a couple weeks.
Tuesday and Wednesday I had the pleasure of taking a young man Masson and his father John out for some fishing on the river and also lake Pepin. We mainly trolled in the lake and put several keeper sized walleyes and saugers into the coffin today. Masson and his father were a blast to fish with and it was nice to see the competitiveness they had against each other on who caught most , biggest and smallest fish. Masson is holding up a couple of his nice walleyes he caught in our two day trip. Great time gentlemen and I look forward to it again in the future.
When dragging jigs last few times out I have been fishing in water depths from 2-10 foot. And for trolling anywhere between 2 and 17 foot. The water is now starting to record which will start to bring fish out of the trees and start to put them in groups again in the river system. I personally can't wait til she drops to normal to see the dragging bite really get good.
Good luck out there guys and gals !!!!!!!
