Mississippi River walleye fishing report

Thursday morning Terry, John, Jim and Young Lars met me at the Hastings public launch for a half day trip out on the Mississippi/ St  Croix River fishing trip.

We started by taking the trip up the Croix, we caught several walleyes and smallmouth bass this morning but it was a struggle to get keepers to bite today.   We fished the first area a couple hours before we headed down to the Mississippi to try a few spit out there.   Same thing seemed to get the smaller fish to bite but the eaters were not cooperating.   What a difference a day makes on the system.  One day they cooperate the next the keeper walleyes decide they want to rest.   Great time in the water guys look forward to another day.

Friday,   Yes the next day what a difference on the bite.  Dave, Mike and Al met me at same launch.   Tried the same thing as day before and after first hour we moved down to the Mississippi River and wow it was game on.  These three gentlemen went through about 4 dozen crawlers split in half.   That show you what kind of bite we had going on this date.  These boys enemies up getting 16 keeper walleyes today and through back at least 20 that just missed the 15 inch mark.  It was a blast watching the competitiveness these guys had in the boat.

Great time out there guys and anytime glad I could fill in for Marty today and be there to see you really enjoy your fishing day on the river system.

The ruver is receding now and the bite us starting to pick up with the cleaner the water is getting.   We fished in water depths that ranged from 6-18 foot today.    Mainly used live bait but did catch a few trolling to boot.

Good luck out there guys and gals !!!!
